Who's Who at Hamlen's

This portion of our site is dedicated to our devoted employees, without whom we could not run this Garden Center as smoothly as we do. Their knowledge and love of plants is a great benefit to us all. Some of them have been with Hamlen's for a while and others are new. Here's a brief introduction or re-introduction as the case may be.

David Hamlen
Started Hamlens in 1974. It was Dave's love of nature, plants, and the environment that lead him to start the business. Dave works with the landscape design aspects of the business and in the garden center.

Joann Messier
Joann is in charge of our store. Her friendly, professional manor is a delight to everyone who visits the store. Joann likes to spend her winters in Florida and summers in Vermont. Joann has completed the U.V.M. Master Gardener program.

Bill Beaulieu
Bill has worked with us for a number of years. Bill does a lot of work behind the scenes especially in the greenhouses. His eager attitude makes Bill a fun person to be around.

Ellen Quigley
Ellen’s friendly and outgoing nature welcomes customers to the store and greenhouses. Ellen is a master gardener and her family used to own a greenhouse making her a valuable asset to the Hamlen’s team. Her willingness to help others shines through her smile and hard work.

Mike Smith
Mike graduated from BFA in 2004; while he was a student at BFA he achieved the title of state champion in the 100 and 200 meter dash. Mike is currently enrolled at VTC studying IT. His great sense of humor makes him a pleasure to work with.

Ericka Hest
Ericka’s love of gardening and plants dates back to 1981, when she helped plant her first window box. Having lived in many places across Canada she considers herself lucky to live in a place as beautiful as Vermont. Ericka brings many talents to the Hamlen’s team one of which is a great smile.

Katrina Giard
Trees and people bring Katrina back to work as a nursery associate every season. In 2008 Katrina has taken on the responsibility of nursery manager. As a child she planted many trees with her ma. Later her dad questioned “why aren’t you majoring in botany?” but alas she was completing a degree in French language and African francophone literature. Although there are no Baobab trees sold at Hamlen’s Katrina does appreciate Vermont’s native trees and welcomes the customer with enthusiasm.
